FACELIFT

When your facial appearance is concerned, it is impossible to stop the clock. Inevitably, skin loosens on the face and neck. Tiny lines appear at the corners of the eyes and turn to crow's feet. Forehead lines, once unnoticeable, become deeper and more pronounced as the jaw line blurs into jowls, and the chin seems to multiply.

A facelift (rhytidectomy) makes it is possible to turn back the hands of time. Depending on the degree of change you wish to see, you may wish to undergo a traditional facelift, a "midface" or limited incision facelift, a neck lift or facial liposuction.

The Traditional Facelift:

A traditional facelift lifts sagging skin, tightens facial muscles and removes pockets of fat, reducing the effects of gravity that make you look tired, haggard and older. An incision is made in the hairline at the temples, around the ear, and ends in the lower scalp. In men, the incision is made along natural beard lines. In all cases, the incision is placed where it will fall in a natural crease of the skin, making it virtually invisible.

Underlying fat is then removed, resculpted or redistributed from the cheeks, jaw line or neck. In some cases, deeper underlying tissue and muscle are repositioned for a tighter appearance. Then, skin is repositioned and excess trimmed away.

The Midface Lift

For those who may have excessively sagging cheeks, deep creases between the nose and cheeks, or noticeable hollows under the eyes, a midface lift may be appropriate. A midface lift does not alter the appearance of the forehead, chin or neck, but can smooth and freshen the entire cheek area for a smoother, more youthful contour.

A midface lift uses shorter incisions at the temples that continue around the ear. Additional incisions may be made within the lower eyelids or under the upper lip. As in a traditional face lift, fat, muscle and tissue are repositioned or removed to restore fullness of the lower eyelids and the cheeks.

IS A FACLIFT FOR YOU?

  • A facelift is sometimes performed on men and women as young as their thirties or as old as their eighties. A facelift cannot stop the aging process, but it can give you a look of health, a more youthful appearance, and perhaps increased self-confidence. If you wish to correct several areas, additional procedures-such as facial liposuction and/or a neck lift-may be performed in conjunction with a facelift.

  • Typically, the results of a facelift can last for around 10 to 15 years, although this can vary based on individual factors such as genetics, lifestyle, and skin quality. While a facelift can significantly turn back the clock on one's appearance, it's important to note that the natural aging process continues after the procedure. Patients may continue to see a more youthful appearance compared to if they had not undergone the surgery, but may also experience some degree of natural aging over time. Regular skincare, sun protection, and a healthy lifestyle can help maximize the longevity of the facelift results.
